Luigi is #1 for me. As a little brother, I often experienced Super Mario Bros. as Player 2. I probably would have identified with him anyways since at that time I liked going against the grain, so if most kids wanted to be Mario, I wanted to be Luigi. When they gave him a more distinctive personality, particularly that of a fraidy-cat, I was initially concerned because I didn't like the idea of him appearing inferior to Mario. But it grew on me, and eventually I fully grasped the appeal of a more reluctant and obviously flawed hero versus the more traditional, steadfast, unquestioning good guy Mario. It works.
Mario's my favorite franchise by a long shot so the other main characters are my next favorites--Mario, Peach, Bowser. I keep waiting for Wario and Waluigi to play a bigger role in the main series. From the various spinoffs, Vivian's my favorite.
I liked Wonder-Red and Wonder-Pink. Too bad we'll probably never see them again. Love Callie and Marie, always look forward to their intros when firing up that game. There are a lot of character designs in Animal Crossing that I love, but the only amiibo I bought was Blathers so I guess that indicates my favorite. I only have played two Wario games but Ashley and 9-Volt seem cool.
That's already 14, so I guess I should stop. I could rattle off plenty more but the order is always going to be Luigi at the top with everyone else changing on whatever whims I have at the time.
