I think I'm just not positive about the future of the MCU at all, even Guardians 3 has me concerned despite it still being written/directed by James Gunn, who I have great trust in (especially after Vol. 2, which had me skeptical before seeing it). In fact, Phase 3 as a whole has been really amazing so far - Civil War was great, Doctor Strange was even better and Vol. 2 is my favorite movie. My point here is just that I really should have no reason to be concerned given how awesome the movies have been, but I just can't help but dislike the direction this franchise as a whole is taking. The reality is, I don't like crossovers. I never have, that's just my taste. Obviously there's a few crossover things I dig, because in the end it doesn't matter if it's a crossover or not as long as it's good, but in general I always prefer standalone stuff - that's why I'm worried about the MCU's future. Most of the movies we've got since 2014 have been pretty heavy on crossovers (only Guardians 1/2 and Strange escaped that), and it seems it's only going even further in that direction from now on. To be honest I am pretty excited about Homecoming as it looks like a pretty awesome classic Spider-Man movie with a great villain, but I can't help but wish Tony Stark wasn't in it - in fact I wish Stark's presence in the MCU had ended in Iron Man 3, as that movie pretty much finished his character arc and ever since he's been just a huge, pointless nuisance. |
oh ok, i can see that. I'm a comic book dude at heart, so i dont mind the cross overs. Alot of people would ask "why didnt the Avengers help"? and questions like that, so i can see why marvel is going in that direction. I think after Thanos its gonna calm down. I like Downey in Civil War but yeah im with you on Spidey, he doesnt need to be in that movie. We'll probably go back to smaller more standalone stuff for phase 4. They cant keep Evans, Downey, Hemsworth etc around forever
