I'm getting really tired of hearing this artificial demand theory. Nintendo doesn't do it. They never have. It's not in their interest to risk losing immediate sales. That's not to say that artificial demand is not a strategy that is used anywhere. It can be useful for some products (mainly low volume products with extremely high prices) but not game consoles, which rely on a very large userbase to be successful.
