If you mean tournaments as in the online mode then there's always some going on, though probably not so much in MK8 for Wii U anymore.

Well I was looking online for tournaments run by sites/forums rather then just looking in the game itself... I think I completely forgot MK8 even had a tournament section in game, does it have search/matchmaking?. Never been in it.
