they participated in 2015 as a guest for the 60th anniversary show, because viewer ratings for the show are high in australia and then they got invited for 2016 and 17 aswell - they might become a permanent participant, but that has yet to be decided

there are/were other non-european nations in the contest, Israel has participated regularly since 1973 for example
