Movies are better at being believable stories (when they're done well) than even the very best game can ever hope to be. No one plays GTA 5, BOTW, Metroid Prime or MGS 5 and believes what is happening. But a great movie? When it's really good, you get lost in it and start believing in what you're experiencing.
I think it's all due to the whole passive vs. interactive. We watch real humans act, so we relate. When we "game", we're all aware we're pushing buttons and making fake polygons move around.
