It is more and more the case in our globalized information world, that people know beforehand of the release of a game and are even hyped for that game. Many have preorded. This means, that on the first day of sales happens as much sales, as in a whole month following the first day. We respect games that sell over time by saying these games have 'legs', but even this games sell much more on first day than the following.

Not sure what you mean here because people know beforehand because of advertising it's been that way for decades now, MK8 on Wii U went on to sell over 8m over time which is much more than what it did on the first day or month.
