Honestly, that is amazing.

But I bet 1-2 Switch became the second million seller, I mean it was close in march and another 28 days (maybe 29) I could see it pass 1 million

Doubtful. At the end of April Nintendo said that 1-2-Switch is on track to reach a million and that was in context of shipments. If it had reached 1m in shipments at the time, Nintendo would have said that it has already crossed that mark. Sell-through is a different matter though, and that's where Mario Kart 8 easily beat 1-2-Switch to the 1m mark.

Yep, when it didnt work.. that's when I think they just thought to themselves, it's over.

Just releasing enough games to support the system until the Switch would arrive.

Nope, when Super Mario 3D World didn't work, that's the point where Iwata set everything in motion to work on a better successor and merely get the Wii U across the finish line. Mario Kart 8 launched during a fiscal year that had a shipment forecast of only 3.6m Wii Us, so they weren't expecting an uptick in Wii U performance anymore.

If that was the case, they wouldnt do the free game promo.
