If indies were what people were interested in, the Vita would have smashed the competition. Sorry but big games are what people are after. This is the Switch's first in close to a month.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Even PS4 didn't get "big" titles every month on the month all the time. Indie titles are just there for the ride, they're obviously not going to drive Switch hardware sales, unless it's something like Minecraft (not sure if that qualifies as an indie title anymore). They fill in the gaps now and again.

Yeah, no way is Minecraft indie anymore. :)  I agree big name games are the more likely drivers of system sales...but I think the "there are no games so of course this sold good" argument is a little specious...or is ignoring the more interesting detail that this is the best selling Mario Kart ever.  Should this really be the fastest-selling Mario Kart ever just because it has little competition? If so, how come Pilotwings and Street Fighter IV on 3DS weren't the best selling games in their respective series?

I think there's still a very strong sign here, and the sign says "Phenomenon" for Switch.  It might also say phenomenon for Mario Kart 8, but that's a bit presumptious right now - let's see if it can hit 20 million.

Edit: removed irrelevant segue about PS4. :)
