There must have been a decent shipment that went out on 29 April as I received an e-mail of notification of stock from TRU ("come in early, limited supply").

I didn't go looking for a Switch, but the Target I stopped at in the morning for non-gaming sundries had two of them, which were the first two I've seen on shelves.

A cursory check on Ebay showed thousands of Switch auctions, indicating a recent surge of supply that may or may not have coincided with that 29 April delivery.

Clearly, Nintendo is trying to get as many to market as possible as record sales rather than sold out stock/unavailability have been the news story and investor data of note. They underestimated demand, hence the statement they would be doubling production, but as was the case with the Wii, no one has a "print more consoles button" at the factories and it does take time for the increase in production orders to catch up to production and ultimately demand.
