I don't think it is such a surefire deal that PS4 is not going to reach PS2 numbers. This is going to be a very long lived platform, and it is going to be one of the chapest platforms in history, across the most variations of hardware.
There is absolutely no way we don't see a PS4 Super Slim built on 7nm chips, with a super cheap SSD. Samsung expects SSD prices to fall below HDD by 2020 so that 1TB SSD will be cheaper than a 500GB HDD. A digital only addition should also see the light of day as the sales of games will pass the 50% digital in many regons in the next year or two. Then there is the outside chance Sony makes a mobile/handheld version, and even more so a second revision to increase power.
It is very possible that we will have a $99.99 - $149.99 PS4 by 2020. This along with other hadware form factors should push the total number of systems sold within the PS4 hardware ecosystem past that of PS2. It may not be a true 1:1 comparison, but at the end of the day, I think the PlayStation brand user base will be bigger than ever by the time they put a wrap on PS4.
Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
