The PS1 might have sold more, but you barely hear about it. I collect older games and the NES is way more popular from what Ive seen. Also go to any game store and youll find several pieces of merchandise that reference the NES. Not much the PS1. Except a carrying bag I saw once...

Well first of all we are talking about Europe...

Second of all we are talking about iconic consoles. What makes the PS1 so iconic? It sold better is not really a good answer. The DS sold more than the PS1 and Gameboy in Europe, but its not really more iconic than the PS1 or the Gameboy here.
