They can call it what they want. It is episodic. You will not finish all of FF7's story in the first part. It's like calling the Hobbit a trilogy. It's not a trilogy, its one book broken up into three movies.
Their full on game is me expecting a crap ton of fetch/monster quest inside midgar for part 1, episode 1, whatever you want to call it.

Many people confuse the term Episodic with how Telltale games divide their games into small portions. That's why I avoid that term.
Regardless, how does it being multiple games prevent the world map from functioning the way it did in the original on a larger scale? They blocked out the boat (crashed airplane) from entering the deep end of the sea, and had to stick to shallow water. They can still do that. They prevented the yellow chocobo from passing over mountains. They can still do that. Etc. The first game may very well only be inside of Midgar, but once you get out, I see no reasons for why an open world would be a problem because the game is on multiple discs. So was the original. Except we got all 3 right away, under the same price.

The game will feel very episodic because the story will be broken up in 3 parts. You can't honestly tell me that you can take 1/3 of FF7 and feel that the story of just that 1/3 is worthy of a FULL RPG game.
And the more invisible walls makes the open world just feel small and tacked on. If you are blocked off from all these places in one of the episodes you will what have one giant prairie with enemies roaming outside of Midgar for example? Feel like BS of the open world of FF13. You know where you finally escape the city and have this big open world, yet all it is, is just a giant environment of enemies. No point to it at all. You just then go back to city anyway. Open world needs multiple cities. A feeling of a WORLD, not just the immediate area.
