Leave the 3DS/2DS brand for a couple more years honestly.
4-8 year olds don't need a Nintendo Switch, Switch is for a higher end audience.
3DS can serve that entry level kids market just fine, and once the kids are hooked on Nintendo IP and get older they can graduate up to the Switch.
This is a better balance IMO than trying to make one system that makes everyone happy. You can't really do it, a 7 year old and a 37 year old are going to want different things, and you can't sell a toy to teenagers or adults, they don't want that.
