Absolutely it is. Though, Nintendo is in its next generation, so last generation should stay well... the last generation.

I honestly think this is basically what Sony did with the last revision for the PS1 or Nintendo did with the GBA Micro.  It's there to mop up some sales in the closing of the generation with a sleek, affordable option.
