| Hiku said: The mobile gaming industry in Japan is very strong. And 3DS is still relevant for at least a short while longer. They can also release games on Switch if they want. But if we're talking about portable games that would normally come to 3DS, then we're talking about smaller budget games, and not a game of Final Fantasy VII's caliber. Publishers mainly went to the home consoles for the big budget titles, and the 3DS for the lower budget titles. PS3 got Final Fantasy XIII, while 3DS got Bravely Default. WiiU got Breath of the Wild, and 3DS got A Link Between Worlds. Etc. Quality games for sure, but there's no doubt that the lower budget for them was appealing to publishers. And this particular game is a remake of what's probably the most important game of their careers, that they want to make as good as possible. I don't see them gimping the lowest common denominator to program for down to undocked Switch. Especially not based on first month sales. |
The old mobile chestnut the predictable go to response that was made irrelevant by the fact that Mobile is also a Nintendo platform, 3DS is only relevant for 2017 then Switch takes over and it's time for the skeptics to swallow this, it reminds me of the GBA to DS transition when certain groups were adament GBA would still be relevant then one year later DS had completely taken over, I've heard/read it all before. You really think smaller budget games aren't also going to be part of the NS library because if so you're kidding yourself everything you see on 3DS and Vita would simply carry on with the NS only difference is that higher end games will be part of the library as well.
Just because you don't see them doing something doesn't make it so as you've not really given a compelling argument why it won't happen only a brief nostalgic description of VII and a not really good comparison of 3DS and PS3. Here's what backs it being a possibility, DQXI a game that will be bigger in Japan got 3 versions a 3DS, NS and PS4 version because of business, this was before one NS unit was even sold and before the platform was even announced the were people still trying to down play DQXI coming to NS even back then when it got announced. SE but doing that showed they're willing to work on 2 to maybe 3 different versions in order to maximize reach. They realize the potential reach of the NS and have banked on it early on, I have no doubt the NS version is a means of having the console version of DQXI also sell to the portable market and can see them doing the same with other games as that's just business. This speaks more about the possible situation then anything you've responded with so far.
Those random people were giving a number of arguments on why they had their views, them being wrong may not indicate an absolute but it points to a fact that the scenario they predicted isn't panning out and things are more positive then thought.
