I'm surprised more people weren't turned off from the first game and true ending tedium. Second's definitely a better game, and deserves higher sales...but I can't blame people not wanting to try the franchise again after how the last 1/3 of Default played out.

I really hope that Octopath Traveler has a solid game flow, and isn't eight nearly identical stories that are needed to get the true ending.

Edit: Not trying to rag on either game. I had issues with Default, but I liked the gameplay enough to buy Second at launch. I just assume most people aren't me.

Absolutely agreed with this. I very nearly skipped Second because of the tedium of finishing Default, it's not unfair to suggest a portion of those who bought Default and made it a million plus seller would have skipped Second after the issues with Default's final third. Default's issues were all the more glaring as a player given no or few reviewers mentioned them. Given this is a 3DS game made using existing assets etc, sales of 700k have likely seen a tidy profit, but perhaps not enough for Square Enix to give the greenlight on Bravely Third (a sequel is very much hinted at by the end credits of Second). I have to say I too thought very highly of Second.

Hopefully Octopath Traveler turns out well. They learnt a lot from Default and improved on that with Second.
