I've been saying since at least 2015 that Nintendo should simply provide improved ports of their required franchises to the Switch; it just makes sense.
First, games like MK8 and SSB for the Wii U are absolutely superb games that would be exceptionally difficult to improve upon. Adding to that, they were exclusive to a failed console that guaranteed the majority of people would not have gotten to play them.
Offering improved ports provides awesome games at minimal cost while freeing up the resources devoted to those games to go towards something else, be it a neglected franchise or a new IP. Also, I'm pretty sure Sakurai needs a break from SSB lest he lose his mind entirely.
I personally hope Nintendo ports over most of the gems from the Wii U, even though I own the majority of them. Playing on the go would be awesome, and it's still a crime to me that some of those games were played by so few.
Basically, the uniquely bad sales of the Wii U makes ports far more viable and welcome than they usually would be.
