The potential. You are probably clouded by the fact that you think most people just care about whats in front of them, when the truth is that people are loyal to products that provide them with the certainty of fun for many years ahead.

What potential? The overall 2017 line up is embarassing. Every Switch owner will end up with the same few games (full-priced port MK8, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey). There's no variety for different types of gamers. I'm a big Nintendo fan myself but I see absolutely no reason to buy it now.

I think the hype around the concept of Switch is what made many people buy the system so early without looking at the software line-up. They are destined to be disappointed when they realize the droughts take months with a few indie-games in between which are cheaper and with better performance on the other home-consoles.

Part of the success has to put down to pent up desire for a new Nintendo console after the disappointment of the Wii U , still in regards to those games most will have been bought by gamers who's expectation is, that  just like all new consoles it takes time to fill out a new platform and they expect the Switch to eventually have lot of games, from both the home and handheld sidesof Nintendo so it's not like they are going to ask for a refund.
