It theoretically could, but that feature is locked by Nintendo.

Besides who cares. HD is just a made up BS market term anyway. (mostly)
I mean look at GTA 4. PS3 vs 360. One is "True HD" the other isn't.
Which one was said to look better? Why the one with lower resolution.
It's like giving kids boxes of crayons. Sure the kid with the jumbo 64 pack can make pictures more colorful then the kid with the ole standard pack. But that doesn't mean their pictures will look better. Even with the same artistic skill, as often times kids screw up when given too many options. Too many shades of their favorite color, or widely contrasting colors that look ugly. etc.
