Might want to look at the monthly chart. The Switch is #8 and the PS4 is #9. Considering they have been switching back and forth in the hourlies, I would say the sales of their top SKU is pretty damn close. Now, if you look at the rest of the list, the Switch does have a 2nd SKU in the Top 100, but it's only at #73. Let's look at the Hourlies, now. The Switch and PS4 remain in the Top 20. But, the situation looks much different for the secondary SKUs. Now that the Pro is in stock, it has been doing pretty good. It currently sits at #59. The next SKU is another PS4 at #63. The secondary Switch SKU is at #75. The PS4 also has the COD bundle, now, which sits at #95. If things continue like this, those secondary PS4 SKUs are going to start rising in the monthly charts, passing the secondary Switch SKU. So, all PS4 SKUs will beat the two Switch ones. You are right that MK8 may change things, so we'll have to see how that plays out. Though, do we know if April NPD actually covers the 28th-30th? I know they aren't exactly lined up with the beginning and end of every month. |
Just worth pointing out that historically, there's a very signicant drop off in terms of sales influence after the top 20 or 30. It's not consistent since all this varies with the general spending going on in the market.
But Mario Kart 8 will be a big factor in the Switch's favor, especially if Nintendo is building up a supply of Switches to ship out for launch. Which would make sense.
