It should only be applied if the beliefs are towards self-fulfillment and not harm towards others.
Most, if not all, religions by nature are meant to be self-fulfilling and even helpful towards other people. The one Golden Rule that ALL religions are supposed follow is Respect. Remember the Six Pillars of Character that we learned in middle school (I assume)? I don't know about you guys, but the one Pillar that they hammered home the most for me was Respect. Respect and tolerance towards other people and their beliefs and to not inflict any harm whatsoever based on those differences. And don't take your own beliefs too far.

As long as an individual doesn't cross the line/go too far and try to actually bring harm, physically, mentally, and emotionally towards other people, than their beliefs should be respected and tolerated.
