Why do people think it's weird? It's pretty much the standard. Next gen remasters usually get worse scores than the original despite being a better game. Mostly it's because they don't add enough new elements, the price is too steep or it's poorly optimized (as in the new console is able to do a much better job).
Skyrim Remaster got a Metascore of 81 after the original got 96.
CoD4 Remaster 83 after 94.
Bioshock Collection 84 after 96 for B1, 88 for B2 and 94 for Infinite.
etc. etc.



This is my thinking exactly, I'm really impressed by a re-release of the same game on the next gen machine to get anywhere close to the same scores as the Wii-U game, 35/40 doesn't change my day one purchase of this game.
