It kinda has already in a sense. In its first year, there's Zelda with its latest installment coveting one of the highest of praises that no other non-remastered game has had this gen, Splatoon 2 is likely to set at least Japan on fire like the original, then you have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Odyssey, ARMS, FE Warriors, and, if it works out, Xenoblade 2. Then we have E3 where anything could happen. Wii U never had these types of titles until it was too late when it had barely any momentum. Plus, advertisement has helped the Switch, which included the Super Bowl commercial. When it came to the Wii U, there are still people out there who don't even know the console existed or knows what it does. Whether you care for that or not, that was one of the big factors to its failure.
Of course, having those big third party titles would certainly help. But if that's mainly the thing that is similar to the Wii U, then we can't say it's going down that path just yet. Who knows, Pokémon (something close to the main titles), Smash 4 enhanced port, etc. might come around. It's only been 1 and a half months since the Switch's release. If we are going to say launch numbers don't matter, then we should at least acknowledge that there is potential for more to come and we can't simply count out the Switch especially when it's so young.
