It's not new though, even the mass market who didn't buy a Wii U know it's an old game. For a game to be a big system seller it needs to have hype, and MK8D isn't getting the hype of a new release because it isn't one. 

To be fair to both of you, MK8:D isn't going to do much in-terms of hardware sales for the foreseeable future since supply is still not meeting the overall demand for the Switch.  Can't boost hardware sales significantly if the platform is already selling at close to sellout rates worldwide.
