-I find that with Zelda BOTW people tend to bring up the Witcher 3 alot to remark as to why its not as great as it is. Whether its the gameplay, weapons breaking or conversational trees. Most of those guys forget anyway that Zelda is at the tipping point of being an RPG, but actually isnt.

people compare zelda to those games cause sadly we don't have action adventure games with the scope of breath of the wild, and breath of the wild is even bigger than a lot of rpgs. So, if we compare breath of the wild with recent action adventure games like Mad max, shadow of mordor and Assassin's Creed, it's not a fair fight.

We need to compare the game with the bigger games out there and sadly the bigger games are in a different genre. (when I say bigger I mean everything not just the world) And Breath of the wild has more rpg elements than a lot of rpgs, but it's an action adventure game, it has been like that forever and that's why it's hard to compare zelda with other games because we don't have many games that mix so many gameplay elements.

Not much argument there, really. People will compare the closest things even though they are separate. Zelda paved the way for open world wrpg's so it makes sense for the comparison in a slight retrospective comparison. They are disregarding the rpg or non rpg elements and focusing simply on the open world adventure aspect which has deep historic roots. Regardless, it has brought us great games. BOTW is Nintendos great offering, and ive had fun playing it. Horizon: Zero Dawn has been compared a well.
