I was being sarcastic. In January 2013 scalpers were returning the Wii Us that they couldn't sell on ebay and the like, and NPD deducted those returns to retail stores from the sales in January, so the Wii U was left with a figure of well below 100k.

Switch will trounce Wii U without breaking a sweat. It beat the Wii U's holiday launch (November+December 2012, roughly seven weeks of tracking) in a non-holiday month (March 2017, roughly five weeks of tracking) and it's selling through its supply for April with ease while Wii U was dead in the water. Switch is probably going to pass Wii U's total sales for the first twelve NPD months within only six months, so without a holiday sales boost.

So, NPD deducts sales to retail stores? Do they add them back when they're sold again?
