He was also one of the minds behind the original Metroid, and the director of Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. If we are ever gonna get another great sidescrollng Metroid, chances are he will be behind it, or at least connected.
Anyway, to answer the topic: no, an m-rated Metroid game isn't really needed. The Prime games demonstrate that plenty can be done with a T rating, and I'm not sure adding gore or cursing will do much to add to Metroid, either atmospherically or mechanically.
That said, I wouldn't be against a Metroid game getting an M rating, so long as the resulting game is still great.
