Anyone remember the chemical attack in 2013?
Just a reminder for those who may have forgotten, or only know the half-truth that the mass media spread back then:

In EARLY 2013, there seems to have been an attack with chemical weapons (probably Sarin) in Syria. You may not have heard about it, because the western mass media hardly even reported about it.

In response to that incident, the syrian government themself requested the UN to send in chemical weapons experts that should investigate the incident. Their motivation for doing so is easy to understand and quite obvious: They were absolutely convinced that it was the terrorists ("rebels" in western mass-media language) who were illegally using chemical weapons; and being aware that the western mass-media would not believe their own words anyway, they wanted neutral chemical weapons experts from a UN institution to prove that the terrorists were illegally using chemical weapons, knowing that the western mass-media could not simply dismiss the investigation results of neutral UN experts.

But their request at the UN for sending in neutral chemical weapons experts was blocked, or at least extremely delayed, for MONTHS. Which is quite ridiculous in itself, because the longer one waits after a chemical weapons attack, the more impossible it is to investigate the incident and to prove anything.

Then, finally, MONTHS after the syrian government requested the UN experts, their request was finally approved - but with one severe restriction: The chemical weapons experts were strictly forbidden to investigate or even comment on who was responsible for the chemical weapons attack, they were only allowed to investigate IF chemicals weapons had been used.

So in late 2013, the UN/OPCW chemical weapons experts that the syrian government themselves invited, finally arrived, in order to investigate the use of chemical weapons earlier that year, which was almost impossible due to the long time that had passed since.
But strangely, just two or three days after those chemical weapons experts arrived, a new chemical weapons attack happened in Syria (Ghouta) - which western mass-media instantly blamed on the syrian government.

So the UN experts investigated that incident as well, came to the obvious conclusion that anyone already knew (that chemical weapons had indeed been used), but were still strictly forbidden to investigate who was responsible for the incident. What a strange coincidence...

So basically, the western mass-media successfully made us believe that the syrian government was so downright stupid to carry out a chemical weapons attack exactly in those few days when the UN chemical weapons experts, which they themselves invited, were in the country. One must believe the syrian government to be insanely stupid to believe this.

Needless to say, back then many critical thinkers and intellectuals pointed out that this just doesn't make sense, that it's way more probable that the terrorists were responsible for the chemical weapons attack. For example, the world-famous investigative journalist Sermour Hersh (well-known for example for making the My Lai and Abu Ghraib scandals public) wrote a great article about it - but every single mass-media he contacted refused to print it. And later, many other institutions also came to the conclusion that it is extremely probable that it wasn't the syrian-government, but the terrorists, who were responsible for the attack. But apparently, those are minor details that the mass-media believes you should not or do not need to know...

Interesting read, I wasn't aware of any of this. Thanks for sharing. This whole issue is a mess and it honestly would not shock me that terrorist/rebels/other forces were using them and blaming the goverment in order to cause another country to intervene. All speculation of course, but it just underlies the importance that we cannot jump the gun and need to think through all these decisions critically, as well as the media holding so much control on the american public, myself included sometimes.

If you don't agree with getting involved, then shouldn't you be condeming this? Specially since it seems like he straight up bypassed congress, which he warned obama not to do back in 2013 when Assad also used chemical weapons.

Also, Isn't taking no action also an action?

Rebels not assad,  per the UN.

I stand corrected if true then. This just  validates that this sudden knee-jerk reaction by Trump may have been misplaced. The reaction around worldwide will interesting to see in the follow days/weeks.
