Even with the multiple playtroughs Nier should be shorter. I heard some people saying Persona was good for short gaming sessions because of the day activities, I'm not convinced but you might just play it when you're sick of Nier.

I would personnaly start with the shorter one, but I haven't invested in N:A yet so take this with a grain of salt.

I was planning to start with Nier but since it's too heavy -and probably more serious- on lore and narrative, I don't want my excitment for Persona 5 to make me rush through it and ultimately kill immersion. I'm a bit more excited for P5 but hopefully Nier will grab me to the point of forgetting about it until I squeezed every bit of it.

I should have got Nier earlier.

As far as my experience for Persona and Yoko Taro's games goes, I would say both are as heavy.

Overall, Persona as more "dark" themes, while Yoko Taro goes further on these themes. Nier should be easier (psychologically) in the beginning and harder on the end, while Persona games usually have a better ending; for the story at least.
