Why the "hardware hate" is so big these days?

With consoles like DSi, New Nintendo 3DS, GBC, etc. one could argue that this has happened a long time ago. We just didn't notice.

I guess I should have worded that different. I was talking about home consoles but yes, nintendo has been doing that with their handhelds.
