Ive had it happen like 3 times in an hour and like 2 times in 10 minutes, but its usually more rare.

The Blood moon occur after 7 in-game days. Also occurs earlier when you fight mini bosses on the overworld I think.

I think it has something to do with how many enemies you have killed. It was very rare in the playthrough in the original post.
