The book is better, albeit more greusome. 

I think both the book and movie are great, but I hate how they end. Way too safe and convenient an outcome that comes out of nowhere. I think McCarthy just didn't know how to conclude his story, and was worried it would be too pointlessly somber if the boy didn't end up with a  (relatively) happy ending. Otherwise a gripping story, so it doesn't totally ruin them for me.
