Ok, let's try to simplify things here. Nintendo's recent history (DS and 3DS) shows that they bring revisions to the market at higher price tags - with the 2DS being the exception. What you are saying actually goes against what Nintendo has been doing since the DS days. I don't deny a market for the 150-200 price tag, i question the reasoning, in this context, to bring a smaller, inferior version so soon. That's the thing here: it's too soon - despite havin real consequences. What do you think will happen when 3DS fades away and there's no 150-200$ mini Switch? And let's face it, Switch has been in development since 2014 (probably 2013) and Nintendo are still thinking about handhelds. Which means there won't be a handheld for at least 3 years! Again, if Nintendo does with Switch what they did with DS or 3DS, the next expectable piece of HW is a more expensive, more powerful Switch, not smaller or inferior in HW. Just looking at the big games, Wii U didn't have solid 3rd party support. It had ok support and a few ports. |
You said itself that they already done that with 2DS and actuality with Switch there will be even bigger need for cheaper version. Like I wrote, huge difference is that Switch has much higher price point than any other Nintendo handheld and already has huge screen, so basically opposite compared to 3DS and DS, and that's exactly why there is no need for bigger of more expensive Switch but actually there will be huge need for smaller and cheaper Switch, especially when 3DS dies.
I really don't see how you cant understand that cheaper Switch will be replacement for for price point that currently held 3DS on market. Currently is too soon, but moment 3DS dies (next year) it will right time.
But point is that will be cheaper Switch when 3DS dies. I am 100% confident in that, because that totally make sense and totally goes with Nintendo plans of one platform with multiple devices that are all part of that same platform. You need to realise that Switch Mini/Pocket is not difrent paltform, it will basically be smaller Switch just for handheld play. There will be Switch Mini/Pocket maybe at end of next year on market. Offcooruse that not all 3DS owner will migrate to Switch or that are willing to pay $300.
Again, Switch compared to 3DS and DS, Switch on launch has much higher price and huge screen, so opposite to DS and 3DS. So they will actually need smaller and cheaper Switch first on market, not more expensive and bigger. You don't need You Cons, you can built in controllers.
Your point is wrong because Wii U actually had games like Batman, Fifa, Call Of Duty, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Need For Speed, NBA...on launch, but those 3rd party that made those games abandoned platform after terrible sales. Those 3rd party start abandoning platform after they saw how bad Wii U sales, Of situation was opposite and Wii U actually selling great, you would see more 3rd party on board.
