More than 90% of Turkey's landmass lies in Asia. Only half of Istanbul lies in Europe. Russia lies for 66% in Asia. Just because a country participates in European contests doesn't mean they are European. Or are countries as Azerbeidzjan, Kazachstan and Israël suddenly European too.
