So wait... In BotW, the 4 Champions - 2 out of 4 of which are male - get their asses kicked and die, Link has to go heal his booboos for 100 years, but Zelda goes one on one with Ganon for that whole century and is STILL STANDING...and this game is sexist? xD |
Anita's analysis of the series has always been superficial. To summarize it as "damsel in distress" is ridiculous. Zelda is the descendent of a goddess; the deities in the series are goddesses; the Gerudo tribe is a strong matriarchy which turns the tables on historical gender roles by treating men as sex objects until their rare Gerudo man is born; and Zelda always has a much more central role in confronting Ganon than Link. Link comes along either per her whim/plans or after Ganon is quite weakened by her. Breath of the Wild was the most Zelda-centric game in the series which highlights her real problems as a princess, and a decendant of a deity. Considering that Hyrule is a feudal society, that is quite amazing. Anita really needs to go back to school and learn some history that isn't filtered through the gender studies or women's studies departments.
