Nintendo doesn't usually do things like this but it had to be done to increase the.believability of.the game and link as a character who is trying to live/survive. And just like real life, you don't have to kill them or hurt them. You can be a vegetarian in botw if you want. A pacifist, tree hugger, it's all up to you.
