1. The Progressives took over the word liberal because people started not liking the Progressives and their ideas. Classic liberals are more like the Libertarians of today. So, yes, classic liberalism played a part in the Civil Rights movement. As did many Republicans and Conservatives, as well as a few Democrats who weren't prejudice. 2. The government having complete control over the ends and outs of the economy and businesses are exactly what many Socialists are about and is what the Nazis wanted, too. All done in the name of the common man. They allowed businesses to function normally as long as they supported them. The second you started opposing them, you were gone. And don't be silly, Socialist countries are big into military/police spending, too. How do you think they keep their people in line? Control dissent? Also, focused on morals standards? What political party doesn't try to use moral standards to push their agenda? Here's a hint, none. Hell, the point of Socialism is supposed to be about "equality" for all and for the greater good. 3. Really missing the point of this one. Either I'm too tired or you worded this weird. I am going to have o cut the convo here, though. It's late here, but more importantly, we probably should get back to what this thread was actually about. Some guy. |
Progressivism is a term that encompasses a wide spectrum of social movements that include environmentalism, labor, anti-poverty, peace, anti-racism, civil rights, women’s rights, animal rights, social justice and political ideologies such as anarchism, communism, socialism, social democracy, and liberalism.
You should stop looking at parties and label their political by their name; instead, look at their policies.
