It seems you rushed it. I knew when I strted this game it was one that needed me to slow my roll and take my time, stuck it on the hardest difficulty and sucked up everything as the jouney went along. I can see why you'd have those problems, it'd be a different experience from your perspective. still, an  is a great score. Nice read too, very thoughtful and balanced.

How did I rush it in your opinion? I use stealth a lot, but this usually shortens combat time. I did all side quests and full main story, the damn mugs, bandit camps, cauldrons, tallnecks and I had maybe half the figurines and half the hunting grounds left and nothing else, there is quite simply almost nothing else to do as far as content goes. And reaching max level after 35 hours in an open world game is quite rare, I imagine, and this is with only a minimum of grinding as well, XP rewards for even simple tasks are quite big and a lot of mobs you can one shot with Stealth Strike yield a lot of XP (I tried last night, there's a large flock of Lancehorn near a bonfire in the desert, about 15-16 in the flock, I timed it and it took me about 3:10 minutes to take them all out with stealth and spear alone, that nets me 16x 565XP, which is a huge chunk of even end level experience).

I play pretty slowly and meticulously, I mark all enemies and form a strike plan beforehand and explore the levels, loot supplies etc., I even pick most herbs and stuff I pass by (I had 6000 Wood at one point...). I ended main story at max level, all skills save for two, best armor, 45.000 in cash and an inventory with 6-7 Thunderjaw Heart and similar loot from high level enemies.

I might get back to it one day and start over on Very Hard, maybe it'll be more fun, Hard is seemingly just that you take more and deliver less damage, which doesn't change much when avoiding damage is pretty easy and the AI allows for truly cheap kills a lot of the time. Once I had the tripple shot skill and added three damage mods with 45% to my best bow; those critical hits murdered everything in my way, I think I've scored over 650 damage on several foes with this skill shot.

Anyway; the game is still great and I did finish it in a little over a week, which is unusual for me, the world is just so inviting in all its visual glory. This game is a perfect example for those who claim that graphics don't matter; the spectacular visuals really add another dimension to the whole production.
