Console launches in general seem to have become more and more inflated over the years, hence why the PS4 and XBO had record smashing launches, and while the PS4 is selling pretty quickly, it's nowhere near the pace of the systems it launched above (like the PS2 and Wii), and the XBO is just doing meh. So imo, the launch doesn't mean much. Heck, just look at Japan, same thing going on there. The PS4 launched with twice as much as the PSP, but the PSP sold at least twice as much as the PS4 will lifetime.

I don't know why you woulkd say console launches are becoming inflated.... could it just be that there are more people willing to buy a aconsole at launch these days than say 10/20yrs ago? Does that mean its an inflated market or just simply that the market has changed?

And I don't know about the Wii (well I do but I don't wanna get into what made it what it was) but you do know that as far as the PS2 is concerned the PS4 is still currently outpacing it? The PS4 has sold through more consoles than the PS2 had shipped in the same number of months on the market.

And I honstly think its a ridiculous thing to do if you are gonna compare handhelds (PSP) to home consoles (PS4)....... yes they both play games, but they are totally different kinda markets and sell for very different reasons.

But I agree with you assessment that these "launches" doesn't mean much. I at least expect every console to sell through most of not all of its launch stock. Especially in the modern gaming market where they can use pre-orders to guage intrest.
