They're not a tight fit and are pretty loose so I question how these people were handling the unit at the time.

There is about 1mm of space either side of the console when docked, that is not much room at all to play with when lifting out or dropping in, I'd go as far as saying damn near impossible to do casually and not scuff the edge of the plastic tabs

and that's the issue, hard plastic tabs running against a plastic screen, and if being lifted out without care, the console being tilted acts as a pivot and applies more force to the sharp edges of the plastic.

its an issue, ultimately down to a major oversight in the design process, Nintendo fucked up, pure and simple.
