It's pretty good, I mean you could make due with it for sure.
That said, having played with the Pro Controller, it's not much of a contest, Pro Controller is superior by a lot. The button size difference is the main thing, the buttons are just so much meatier. The Pro Controller's shoulder buttons are just great too, like butter in Fast RMX, the Joycons are OK, but they can't really measure up.
Also you have no d-pad on the current Joycon Grip set up ... so I mean I have to wonder how they're going to address that especially for Virtual Console stuff ... playing Super Mario World or something is gonna suck with the analog stick or the direction buttons (either way).
If money is tight I'd say it's ok to ride it out with the Grip included with the console, but if you got a little more money to burn, definitely invest in the Pro pad.
