To repeat once more, if MS invests in a high quality sequel for Minecraft it could give them the boost they need and the console sales they desire. Even moreso if they keep it exclusive, but I doubt it. MS is fashioning themselves to be more of a high profile multiplatform publisher than an exclusive developer/publisher. They want to be as accessible to people as windows is to the massive sea of audience they already have.
