It's ironic that you use the gamecube as an example, as it was more powerful (and cheaper) than the PS2 - and the DVD player was the gimmick.

Except ps2 dvd is also a functional movie dvd player. 4k uhd bluray player on xbox1s is also a "gimmick", but look at how that extra function wins the battle between xbox1s and ps4 slim.
