No, it wouldn't be a sign of respect, because transgenders don't view themselves as "transgender", they view themselves as male or female.

Well if they view themselves as male or female then this should not even be an issue and I think that is what Ka-pi was getting at. If they were say a man to start with but had the change to be a woman and identify with being a woman then they would use the womens restroom. And vice vera is they started as a man. So with that being said that is where Ka-pi is coming from. Which is completely understandable.
