You can now set up your User ID with Nintendo Account, this is replacing Nintendo Network.

No caps, 6 character minimum.
If you guys are having the email issue, I had that as well.
You have to link your password (that's the option under User ID) and then you will get a code for the password, and then you will be able to make your User ID once you make a password
