My understanding is the actual drug king pins in the Phillipines are actually all Chinese triads and Duerte is a puppy dog when dealing with the Chinese. I don't really see what he's going to accomplish if he really can't even get to the root of the problem.

We got Mexican cartels and even Korean mobs too. All tied to narco politicians.

Did you guys know that during the previous administration our national jail became the hotbed of drug trade? And the former DOJ secretary who let that all happen under her watch became a Senator.

So I'm not even sure there is a solution to the problem anymore. The drug syndicates are in too deep in Government.

Edit to your edit:

And yes poverty is probably our greatest problem. :(

So why not focus on poverty? I mean first of all I imagine a lot of people get high because being poor is fucking depressing.

Seems to me like improving that situation should be priority 1, 2, and 3, and would probably reduce the number of drug users in the process ... rather than y'know just killing people for using drugs (or at least threatening to do so).

Second to that I looked at the drug numbers for your country and it's something like 1.8%-3% (low to high estimates) is the range for drug users ... I mean 1-3% of your country is worth going into martial law over? I dunno, that seems fairly crazy to me, in America, I'd say probably 3% of the population is addicted to some kind of drug easy.
