Every handheld to ever take on Nintendo has lost. It's the very definition of insanity. Every company to take on Nintendo has tried the same thing expecting different results. Make it more powerful than Nintendo's hand held and let the money roll in guys!...or or not. Nintendo is like John Cena with handhelds. lol Nintendo wins. I would still buy this as I do like my Vita and PSP more than my DS and 3DS but still I would not trust Sony to keep support for it. Sony has a knack for quickly abandoning hardware that isn't their main home console.

I don't really buy that it's all Gunpei Yokoi's philosophy. In fact Gunpei Yokoi did make another portable machine which was dirt cheap ... it was called the Wonderswan and it didn't sell great (much like the Virtual Boy). So it's not like Yokoi had some magic powers.

Nintendo does well in the portable business largely because they take it more seriously than other competitors. Sure Sega and Sony have had portables in the market but can you honestly say they put as much effort into them as say Nintendo did with the DS or 3DS? Nope. Nintendo basically has treated their portable systems like full blown consoles ever since Pokemon broke out in the late 90s. For other companies the portable system has always been like a "side" project that they throw a few resources at but the console is always far more important. Nintendo on the other hand, look at how hard they fought to keep the 3DS from drowning, but they let the Wii U sink and die.

And there is a portable gaming force that has definitely humbled Nintendo ... that would be smartphones/tablets. Those have certainly hurt Nintendo badly and forced them even to bend the knee and support those platforms.
