I mean, the market certainly exists on Nintendo platforms, but even Vita had more JRPGs than the 3DS. It's not like it's this huge untapped area. Fans of those games are predominantly on other platforms.

Vita has a lot of JRPGs that barely sell.

The 3DS has a lot of Japanese RPGs that sell a lot or at least decently: Dragon Quest, Yokai Watch, Pokémon, Kingdom Hearts, Mario & Luigi, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, Bravely Default, Paper Mario, etc.

And I'm curious to see how well Ever Oasis will do, it looks like a decent game, but might be overshadowed by the Switch.

I feel sorry for the devs of that game because, like you said, it's going to be completely overshadowed by the Switch, released to little fanfare and quickly forgotten; plus, It doesn't help that the game has a fairly generic artstyle and nothing really unique about its gameplay.  Despite all of that, I'm hoping it can sell enough that Nintendo sees the value in Grezzo making new IPs instead of being the Zelda spin-off devs.
