It's simple - journalist are part of the industry and because of that they have to hype big AAA games, even if they have flaws. Why ? Because bad metacritic = bad sales and bad sales = lower investments in the future=less games in the future=less reviews,articles,trailers etc.

Not that simple, imho.

Plenty of AAA games don't get such high scores despite being AAA games. Plenty of 1st party games do well on meta while other 1st party games don't (e.g. Infamous: Second Son, 1886).
